Summary : In ‘Dying and Commemoratings in the Environs of Bruges 1900-2000‘ special attention is paid to one suburb because in Sint-Kruis several classed ended up on the same place, though in a different way. The local population has been buried on its churchyard(s) but the upper class of the city also used to have their (monumental) family-vaults over there. This survey deals with one’s ultimate moments and with a wider
range of related aspects as well (omens, taboos and symbolism, patron saints and prayers, transport and disposal, funeral rites, commemoration, etc.) and is based on printed papers, manuscripts, pictures, tapes and
interviews. In the last century there were a lot of noteworthy changes,esp. since the fifties (the welfare state) and the sixties (the Vatican Council) and the situation keeps changing.

Summary : Starting from a thorough examination of the archives, the author searches for data on 16the century procession flags. In the old archives of the chapter church of St Michael and St Gudula, and in the accounts of the Brussels church councils, repeated references are made to such flags. The manufacturing of these flags may have been a separate profession. The van Conincxloo family of painters specialized in it, as far as Brussels is concerned.
Roobaert gives an accurate survey of the flags they ordered (Brotherhood of Our Lady, Brotherhood of the Holy Sacrament, Brotherhood of the Holy Trinity). The author also pays attention the materials used, the subjects depicted, and the manufacturing of the flags themselves.
